Biography
A New York City freelance violinist/violist, Katie von Braun has performed with the American Symphony Orchestra, American Ballet Theatre, Some Like It Hot Broadway (interim chairholder, concertmaster sub) Phantom of the Opera Broadway, The Lion King Broadway (viola/violin doubler) and Dear Evan Hansen Broadway (concertmaster and viola). She has toured as violist with Dear Evan Hansen National Tour, concertmaster with An American In Paris Second National Tour, and as an aerial flying violinist with Cirque Musica Holiday Spectacular. Katie was the concertmaster and house violinist at Westchester Broadway Theatre, and performed onstage bluegrass fiddle in New London Barn's Playhouse's production of Always, Patsy Kline.
Katie attended the University of Michigan School Of Music, Theatre and Dance for her Bachelor of Music in 2013 and San Francisco Conservatory of Music for her Masters in 2015. Here, she was both concertmaster of the SFCM orchestra and one of the founding members of the Amaranth String Quartet. In the summer of 2014, Katie spent two months volunteering as a violin teacher at three music camps for children and adults in Haiti. In 2016 she participated in two US tours with the chamber ensemble Imbroglio Sextet. Katie moved to New York City and joined the music faculty at Opus 118 Harlem School of Music, a teaching organization founded by Roberta Guaspari and featured in the Meryl Streep movie Music of the Heart. Additionally, Katie joined the teaching faculty at Harmony Program and Ethical Culture Fieldston School and started a private teaching studio.
